Shalom, precious brothers and sisters. Allow me to introduce myself and our ministry, and share how we came to be. I am Pastor Ken, and my wife Brenda Kerubo. Brenda was born into a very abusive family. At a tender age, she fled her home and found refuge with a Christian family in the city. Raised by Samaritans, she imbibed strong Christian values that shaped her character. After completing my university education, I took to the streets of Nairobi to preach in the open-air markets. It was there that the Lord allowed me to meet Brenda. Witnessing her determination to join me in singing choruses and her charismatic nature while reading Bible verses, I felt honored to know her. Our friendship began, and I welcomed her to the street ministry. As time passed, Brenda shared with me the harrowing experiences of her teenage years. Later, we married and decided to relocate from the city to the countryside, where we established Tears of Joy Church. In our community, existing churches were distant from our home. Despite this, we garnered a following of 15 members. One day, while shopping in the market, Brenda felt compelled by a vision from God to have me accompany her. There, we encountered a street girl named Nyaboke, who approached us, hungry and in need of assistance. After a discussion, we provided her with 50 KES. Upon further conversation, we learned that Nyaboke, a 7-year-old, had no parents and pleaded with us to take her in. Yearning for a child of our own, we brought her home, bathed her, and clothed her. Our hearts swelled with gratitude to God for this child! As time passed, Nyaboke shared the hardships and challenges faced by street children. She urged us to visit her peers on a Sunday. Taking our Bibles, we met three boys and two girls, who were overjoyed to see Nyaboke, now under our care. Reading from Psalms 41:1-3, we shared the Word with them and asked if they would like to come home with us. They all agreed. Thus, Tears of Joy Church and Tears of Joy Children's Home, Kenya, were born. Unemployed ourselves, it was financially challenging to provide for the children. We thank God for the four church members who supported us with food, clothing, shoes, and personal items. As our church membership grew, more members generously assisted us in meeting the children's needs. In 2017, God blessed us with our own child, Blessing Liam, and we continue to thank Him for His greatness. Liam grows up knowing that all the children are his brothers and sisters.
Food is a basic human need. Most of the children we support are either orphaned or from households that survive on under a dollar a day. The meals we provide are essential to keep their lives bearable.
We dream of living in a more spacious house with many rooms due to the congestion in our current house which is too small for the 37 of us. We continue praying for God's abundance and grace so that we can realize this dream.
Education is the key to a brighter future. We provide children with the resources they need to succeed in school.
Children need guidance to follow the right path. We have mentorship programs for the vulnerable children which help shape their future.
